Ky portret në vaj mbi pëlhurë i artistit të madh ndërkombëtar Shefqet Avdush Emini i përket pikërisht kësaj kategorie të fundit. Nuk është vetëm fytyra e një burri shqiptar. Nuk është një portret klasik. Nuk është një studim anatomik i figurës njerëzore. Është fytyra e një historie. Njëri sy duket sikur është mbyllur nga lodhja, nga plagët, nga dhimbjet që nuk kanë fund, ndërsa tjetri mbetet ende i hapur, si një dritare e vogël që refuzon të shuhet. Jeshilja krijon kontrastin e jetës që vazhdon pavarësisht gjithçkaje. E kuqja shfaqet si kujtesë e gjakut të derdhur ndër breza. E bardha nuk është bardhësi e qetë; ajo është si një fashë mbi plagët e historisë, si një shpresë që mbetet e papërfunduar, por që nuk zhduket.

Në Kosovë, kjo histori arriti kulmin tragjik gjatë luftës së viteve 1998–1999, kur shumë civilë u vranë, u dëbuan dhe u përjetuan krime të rënda që janë dokumentuar gjerësisht nga organizata ndërkombëtare. Kjo vepër nuk përpiqet të dokumentojë një ngjarje të vetme; ajo e shndërron kujtesën historike në një simbol artistik të qëndresës dhe dinjitetit njerëzor.
